Nottingham Racecourse Park and Ride
This sizeable installation is a back up charging site for Nottingham city council’s expanding fleet of electric buses. This site allows the charging of 5 BYD and 10 Optare buses. The project involved a new high voltage 800kVa connection from the network operator Western Power. Due to capacity constraints on the 11,000 volt network, Western Power installed a soft inter trip to their HV equipment. This demand constraint allows the client the full capacity required without having to pay large network reinforcement costs to upgrade the local supply. This is done with the agreement that the network operator has the ability to ask us to reduce site load when pressure on the network increases or in extreme conditions they will disconnect supply until the network’s capacity returns to normal conditions. This installation is the second soft inter trip on Western Power’s Network.
Civils works included 218ms trenching, the build of 11 concrete bases for chargers, LV and HV plant room bases, a transformer base and surrounding bund. The LV panel was fabricated and tested off-site to reduce connection time on site. Logistics, deliveries and project management involved liaising with the land owners and end client to ensure it was business as usual during the works so the site could remain open to public and horse racing fans during the projects.
Due to extreme wet weather in April 2018 and January 2019 along with a variation mid-way through the job, the project was delayed by 3 months and the client hand over in was carried out March 2019.
